Despite verbally agreeing personal terms with Newcastle, the allure of Champions League football at Villa Park ultimately swayed his decision. Villa’s late intervention with an improved offer, totaling nearly £59.5 million (€70 million) with add-ons, surpassed their previous record of £50 million paid for Amadou Onana in 2024.

The club's focus on midfield recruitment follows the £35 million departure of Youri Tielemans to Manchester United and Amadou Onana's lengthy absence due to a serious knee injury sustained at the World Cup with Belgium. Manzambi’s impressive form last season for Freiburg, where he scored seven goals and provided nine assists across 47 games, earned him the Europa League Young Player of the Season award.
